An updated five potential candidates for the Southend United job

Southend United remain in the hunt for a new manager to replace Kevin Bond. Here is an updated five potential candidates for the Shrimpers-

Adam Barrett- He spent two spells a player at Roots Hall and is a boyhood supporter of the club so has been installed the front runner for the vacant position. He is currently the first team development coach at Championship side Millwall.

Darren Currie- The current Barnet manager is another being linked with the Southend post. The 44-year-old has done a decent job with the Bees and they are currently 12th in the National League. He played for the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Ipswich Town and Chesterfield in his playing days.

Gary Waddock- The experienced boss is currently the caretaker manager. He knows the Football League inside out having previously managed the likes of QPR, Wycombe and Oxford United. He is an option for the Shrimpers.

Michael Appleton- He is eager to get back into management after recent coaching roles at Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion. The ex-Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers and Oxford boss could be tempted by Southend if they target him as it would provide a route back into the dugout for him.

Sol Campbell- The former Arsenal and England defender is looking for the next opportunity of his managerial career after managing in League Two with Macclesfield Town last season. He is a name being mentioned with Southend, but they are more likely to pursue the above names.
