Former Ipswich Town loanee Brandon Williams has spoken about his short-lived spell in Suffolk for the first time.
The 24-year-old defender left Manchester United to reunite with ex-United assistant Kieran McKenna on August 24, 2023, with a season-long loan agreed.
While he started well, scoring twice in 17 games and proving to be a key member of the squad, he didn't play for the Blues again after the 0-0 draw with QPR on December 29th, 2023.
At the time, McKenna said Williams had returned to Manchester for 'medical assessment' but he never returned to Suffolk.
At Chester Crown Court today, Williams pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without third party insurance after being caught speeding in Cheshire on August 20, 2023.
Speaking for the first time about his spell in Suffolk, Williams revealed a chat with McKenna was key to his decision to leave Old Trafford on loan.

He told the More than a Match podcast: "I just went in in the summer and went to the manager (Erik Ten Hag) ‘I’m going to go to the Championship, I’m going to go and play in the Champ and experience something.'
"Because obviously Kieran’s there and at that point I was in a bad situation off the pitch, stuff was going on – and Kieran got in touch with me and was like ‘come down here, it’ll be good for you.’
“So then I went down (to Ipswich). Kieran was there, Martyn (Pert) was there and Granty (Lee Grant). Obviously, Granty was now one of my coaches, but I shared a changing room with Granty.
“We had that kind of like…I could speak to him on both sides. I could speak to him on serious football and I could speak to him like that as well.”
He continued: “Ipswich, I really liked it. It was good, it was going well, I was doing well.
"The team was great, it’s a proper serious football club with what they do and the standards.
“If you ain’t training, you’re noticed – you don’t look good.
“I had a couple of injuries, and then we got to January. A lot of things were starting to go crazy off the pitch, with friends and stuff like that.
“And Kieran could see that in me, and he was like ‘go back to Manchester for two weeks, go sort out what you need to sort out and then come back to who you are.’
“So I was like ‘ok, no worries.’
Though he never returned, Williams, who is now without a club after leaving United at the end of his contract last summer, said he was delighted to see Town promoted to the Premier League.
“He (Kieran) knows me," Williams continued. "Prior to that, they could see it coming.
"Granty was picking me up to go to Starbucks and we’d go and have a chat in his car and we’d just speak about things.
“So I ended up coming back to Manchester to sort a lot of things out. But things got worse, so then the process didn’t get me back down there.
“Then we got to March and I started training by myself, was training good, but it just got to… they were fighting for promotion and so it was just better for me not to go down there. My head wasn’t there.
“Obviously buzzing that they ended up getting promoted, that was a good feeling – I was still supporting them, I was watching them every single game.”
Williams will be sentenced at Chester Crown Court on May 9.
